College Museum

The Museum is the repository of a vast array of artifacts from its beginning in 1896 until the time of its closing in 1984. Through the kindness and generosity of businesses, donors and graduates, the museum houses over 2,000 items that show the success of this innovative institution.

In addition, there is a wide variety of The Pointer, the college annual. The museum continues to seek missing annuals. Also, The Pulse, the college newspaper, is collected in bound volumes in chronological order.

The Springfield College Museum was organized in an effort to preserve the history and artifacts of the college. The College, known by different names over the years, The Normal, Southern Normal, Southern State Teachers College, Southern State College and the University of South Dakota/Springfield, is remembered at the museum with collections that cover all of the names.
